Your best interests come first

Our priority is you, our customer. As a mortgage broker we are bound by the best interests duty, which means we are legally required to place your finance needs above anyone else's. We are transparent about products, your options, the applicable fees and charges, and any conflicts of interest. We communicate in plain language and are committed to recommending a product that meets your needs and is in your best interests at the time we assist you.

What "credit assistance" means

We are required to give you this Credit Guide as soon as it becomes clear we are likely to provide you with credit assistance. We provide credit assistance when we:

  • suggest or assist you to apply for a particular loan with a particular lender, or for an increase to an existing loan with a particular lender; or
  • recommend that you stay in an existing loan contract.

Preliminary Assessment

Before we provide credit assistance, we must assess whether a particular loan is "unsuitable" for you. A loan is unsuitable if, based on the information you give us, you could only repay it with substantial hardship, or it does not meet your requirements and objectives. We document this in a Preliminary Assessment covering your requirements and objectives, your financial and relevant personal situation, and your ability to repay, and we take reasonable steps to verify the information you provide.

You can request a copy of your Preliminary Assessment any time for up to 7 years, free of charge. We'll provide it within these timeframes:

Your request is madeWe'll give you your assessment
Before the credit day*As soon as possible after we receive your request
Up to 2 years after the credit dayWithin 7 business days of your request
Between 2 and 7 years after the credit dayWithin 21 business days of your request

*The credit day is the date the loan is settled or the loan amount is increased.

Fees and charges payable by you

We may charge a fee for providing credit assistance. If a fee applies, we'll set it out in a Credit Quote given to you before we submit your loan application, so you'll always know any cost to you in advance. You may also have to pay other fees and charges (such as application fees or valuation costs) to the lender or other parties; these are set out in your loan contract documents.

How we get paid

Our aggregator receives commission from lenders and then pays commission to us on settled loans. An upfront commission is calculated as a percentage of the loan amount and is usually paid after settlement. A trail commission is calculated monthly on the outstanding loan balance and paid in arrears. These commissions are paid by the lender, not by you. The exact amounts for your loan are disclosed in the Summary of Requirements and Credit Proposal we provide when we give you credit assistance.

From time to time we may also receive a non-commission benefit, such as training, professional development, a gift, conference attendance or entry into a lender or aggregator competition, at no extra cost to you. Where these are apparent in the course of assisting you, we'll disclose them.

Others we deal with

Our aggregator. We access lenders and their products through our aggregator, Connective Broker Services Pty Ltd (ABN 77 161 731 111), Credit Representative 437202, authorised under Australian Credit Licence 389328. The aggregator charges us a fee (a share of lender commission, a membership fee, and a monthly fee per accredited loan writer). Commissions across Connective's lender panel are transparent and do not influence our recommendation.

Referrers. We receive referrals from accountants, financial planners, real estate agents and others. If you were referred to us, we may pay that referrer a commission or fee, any such payment is disclosed in your Summary of Requirements and Credit Proposal.

If you have a complaint

We're committed to great service, but if you're ever unsatisfied, please tell us verbally or in writing with the details, so we can work towards a prompt, fair resolution. First contact Shaheera on 0452 560 098 or shaheera@exceedfinance.com.au.

If we can't resolve it together, you can put your complaint in writing to the holder of Australian Credit Licence 389328, and it will be handled in line with ASIC's Internal Dispute Resolution requirements. If your concerns remain unresolved, or you haven't heard back within 30 days, you can refer the matter, free of charge, to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA):

Our lender panel

We're accredited with a panel of 35+ lenders, the major banks, second-tier lenders and specialist providers, accessed through Connective. We are not owned by any lender and are not tied to recommending any one of them. The full, current panel is published at connective.com.au/lender-panel, and a list of our top lenders over the past 12 months is available on request.

Things you should know

We don't provide tax, accounting, legal or financial planning advice. It's important you understand your obligations under any loan and its financial consequences, if in doubt, seek independent advice from an appropriately qualified professional before entering a loan contract. We also maintain an entertainment and hospitality register, a copy of which is available on request.

Your privacy

We handle your personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. When you ask us to assist, we collect, use and exchange your personal and credit information to assess your application, source a suitable lender and any insurances, and manage the process. When you begin working with us, we'll provide our full Credit Guide and Privacy Disclosure Statement and Consent for you to review and sign. See our privacy note for more.
